The Story of Rauf

We had anchored our 35 ft. sailing yacht named: "Applause" in East Africa.

On coming ashore, I told the boys who guarded our dinghy, "Tomorrow night I will make the moon disappear." They laghed.

The following night the moon rose in total eclipse over the Equator.

The boys asked, "How did you know?"

I started teaching them how to use with stars so they could teach their fathers how to navigate their fishing boats offshore and come home safely.

They took me in the village and gave me the Swahili name: Rauf, which means one who shows compassion for others.

I have been called: Rauf, every since.
